I’m assuming most of you have seen the “ShamWow” commercials, probably a couple dozen times by now. If not, watch these first:
Okay are you back? Good. Sorry if I just scarred you for life. So most people that know me know of my burning hatred for these commercials, and more specifically of this guy Vince. He’s just a snarky, condescending douche. But I wonder what it says about our country that they’ve sold almost $50 million worth of these rags.
Ever since I first saw the original ShamWow commercial, I’ve wanted to do some kind of parody of this thing. Originally I thought about doing a video parody. But Youtube is already choked with those. Once I started the comic, I figured that would be the best venue, but couldn’t really come up with a decent hook.
Then came the news that Vince had been arrested for beating a hooker, and I thought, “bingo”.
Apparently, Vince “Offer” (whose real name is Vince Shlomi) is a crazy ex-Scientologist who also fancies himself a filmmaker. For an article about that, read my buddy’s blog here.
Update, 6/4/09: Apparently, Consumer Reports isn’t exactly saying “wow” either (video).
